With the Fall semester drawing to a close, that means it is time for another set of Computer Music final project videos. This time my Digital Arts students were directed to incorporate machine listening into their Max/MSP development. Most of them ended up using the [analyzer~] object, which was originally created by Tristan Jehan and is currently maintained by CNMAT. You can see the results of their work below. Enjoy!

It’s that time of year again. Yes, it is the holidays. BUT…it is also time for final projects from my Digital Arts students. The Fall 2010 crop of students in DIGA 461 Computer Music did a fantastic job exploring algorithmic composition via Max/MSP in their fourth and final project. They produced some creative projects and some equally creative videos to document their work. I hope everybody enjoys these!

Final projects by Digital Arts students came rolling in last week at Stetson University. The videos below are by students in the Fall 2009 version of my course DIGA 461 Computer Music, where undergraduate students learn to use Max/MSP as a platform for exploring sound synthesis, audio processing and algorithmic composition. They are required to not only complete a final research project, but document and share via YouTube. I hope people out there enjoy these as much as I did!

During Fall 2008, I required my Computer Music students to submit a YouTube video documenting their final projects for the first time. The course teaches students to use Max/MSP as a platform for studying fundamental computer music techniques. Having them produce videos was a bit of an experiment, but the final results made it a success. I look forward to doing this in future years.
